Experts from the University of Florida note that models with shapes that are different from the standards of the fashion industry have a positive effect on the psyche of women. In addition, women with more lifelike figures who show off their clothes help them remember the patterns they show better and increase the chances of their purchase by the average shopper.

Experts recruited 49 women who wanted to lose weight to the experiment and showed them a series of images of thin, medium build and plus size models on a TV screen, while assessing their psychophysiological reactions.

After viewing each image, women were asked to rate how satisfied they were with their own bodies and to what extent they compared themselves to a particular model. Of course, it turned out that all women compared themselves with thin models and at this moment the lowest level of satisfaction with their own bodies was recorded. When looking at images of average and plus size models, the women who participated in the study liked themselves.

Jessica Ridgway, who led the study, noted that their findings should be taken up by the fashion industry and set more realistic beauty standards if they want to draw attention to their products.
