On March 11, on the eve of the official opening, a special show of the world famous anatomical exhibition BODY WORLDS took place in Moscow. The unique anatomical exposition of Dr. Gunther von Hagens arrived in Russia for the first time and is now ready to officially open its doors to visitors!
Doctor Angelina Wally, international curator of BODY WORLDS, director of the Plastination Institute in Heidelberg (Germany), specially flew to the grand opening of the exhibition in Russia. “Our exhibition was attended by over 50 million people around the world. And the main reason that encourages people to come to us is that they want to look into the world of themselves! Looking at the exhibits, people begin to think about their attitude to themselves. They begin to treat the body as more than just a gift. Moreover, according to a survey of exhibition visitors, 9% of those surveyed began to smoke less, 33% began to adhere to proper nutrition, 35% began to play sports and join a healthy lifestyle, "commented Dr. Wally.
According to Dr. Gunther von Hagens, an anatomist and inventor of the plastination method, who was unable to attend the official opening, the opportunity to visit the exhibition in Russia was an important event for him.
“It is a great honor for me to bring BODY WORLDS to Moscow, a city that I have long admired as a cultural center not only for Russia, but also for the world. Inspired at a young age by the Russian launch of a satellite into space, I realized that I wanted to try to do something to revolutionize science. My sincere admiration for the research and courageous decisions of Russian scientists prompted me to pursue a career in science,”explained Dr. von Hagens.
The special screening of the BODY WORLDS exhibition, which in Russia is called "The Cycle of Life", was attended by celebrity guests and leading Russian media, who were among the first to see the exposition. According to the organizers, the version of the anatomical exhibition presented in Russia can become a real educational platform, the resources of which the audience can use for their own educational purposes.
102 exhibits are presented in the Russian exposition BODY WORLDS. Several rooms, connected with each other, will tell the history of anatomy and physiology from birth to the formation of a person. Changes in the structure and functioning of the human body have become clearly accessible thanks to samples of the human body and its individual organs made by the plastination method.
The special attention of the guests of the special show was attracted by the stands that allow comparing the organs of a healthy person and people leading a harmful lifestyle or suffering from various diseases. Exhibits of the human body show the skeleton and ligaments of the body, the nervous system, as well as the structure and characteristics of the body of people involved in sports.
“Like my son, I am delighted and impressed by the exhibition. Perhaps someday I myself will sacrifice my body so that people know how champions appear, how athletes' muscles work,”Natalya Ragozina, world boxing champion, shared her opinion.
Many media personalities and government officials who attended the event were enthusiastic about the arrival of the anatomical exhibition BODY WORLDS. Among the visitors of the special show were representatives of the professional community.
So, according to Shemyakov Sergey Evgenievich, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor and Head of the Department of Human Anatomy of the Russian National Research Medical University named after NI Pirogova, “from the educational point of view, for professionals in the field of science and medicine, visiting the exhibition will undoubtedly be a useful experience. All our medical universities have anatomical museums, where anatomical exhibits are presented to varying degrees in the form of body parts and organs separately, which serves as a career guidance program for medical students. Not a single textbook and model will give such an idea of the structure of our body as an opportunity to learn and see all this with our own eyes."
The organizers have made the exhibition interactive: by scanning a QR code through a smartphone, visitors can listen to information about each of the exhibits in Russian and English. And those who want to immerse themselves in the study of anatomy in more detail can get acquainted with the history of the formation of this science on a chronological timeline located in the pavilion, or watch a film about the exposition in the lecture hall area. Later, the organizers plan to launch a series of scientific and educational lectures from experts, representatives of science, psychologists and other speakers, which will be available to all visitors during the exhibition.
For a wide audience, BODY WORLDS in Moscow opens from March 12 and will last until the end of the year. Let us remind you that Russia has become the 36th country in which the BODY WORLDS exhibition is located. The exposition is located on the territory of VDNKh in pavilion 21. The exhibition will be of equal interest both to the professional scientific community and to all residents and guests of the capital who want to learn the features and capabilities of their body.
