On March 14, the Jewish religious and cultural center "Zhukovka" will host the premiere of the musical and literary composition "Odessa Stories" based on the works of Isaac Babel. The unique, immediately recognizable prose of Babel will be revived with his voice and intonations by the actor of the theater "Lenkom Mark Zakharov" Anton Shagin, and the musical background will be brilliantly created by the Klezmasters Orchestra. The author of the idea and the director is Lyubov Kovaleva.
"Odessa Stories" immerse us in stories full of drama, humor and unique flavor of the city by the Black Sea. The listeners seem to be transported in time and space, to find themselves in Odessa at the beginning of the 20th century. The viewer will see this city in all its recognizable splendor and originality, pictures of the life of the Jews of pre-revolutionary Russia will pass one after another. Changing each other, Babel's plots and characters will make you laugh, cry and empathize.
Anton Shagin is a theater and film actor, laureate of the President of the Russian Federation for young cultural workers in 2016, laureate of the Russian Government Prize. In his performance, the literary text acquires a special charm and literally comes to life. This is exactly the author's reading that will allow all listeners to take a fresh look at the works of Isaac Babel, see their versatility and originality.
The unique atmosphere of old Jewish Odessa will also be created thanks to the musical accompaniment of the Moscow Klezmasters Orchestra. The orchestra's musicians perfectly combine nagging national melodies, cult compositions in the chanson genre, recognized classical themes - it is not surprising that the band's concerts are invariably sold out all over the world and turn even austere philharmonic halls into a dance floor.
This is the third joint project of the ERCC "Zhukovka" and the "Family to Help" Charitable Foundation. Thanks to the project, 36 veterans and 12 children with disabilities received specific assistance, the ward boarding house receives a full supply of medicines every month, the work of a teacher of an inclusive theater studio for children with disabilities from 5 to 17 years old is paid.
