The premiere of the new ballet program POSTSCRIPT will take place on May 25 and 26 at the Bolshoi Theater. The production company MuzArts is preparing an exciting evening of contemporary choreography, which will include works by ballet masters such as Alexei Ratmansky, Wayne McGregor, Sidi Larbi Sherkawi, Paul Lightfoot and Sol Leon. In the center of the program is the prima of the Bolshoi Olga Smirnova,which the audience will see in three of the four ballets included in the program.
Producer of the MuzArts company Yuri Baranov: “The idea of the project was born after we staged a new number“McGregor + Mugler”for Olga Smirnova. After a successful premiere in London, it was decided to create a new program and invite the outstanding choreographers of our time. Each of the invited creators is unique in his style, choreographic plastics, his views and philosophy of life. Their performances are filled with unique inspiration, emotions, which they skillfully express through the inner world and physical capabilities of the artists."
The main premiere of the evening will be the ballet "MCGREGOR + MUGLER" -an incredible collaboration of two art visionaries from the world of dance and haute couture. The famous choreographer Wayne McGregor and the legendary couturier Manfred Thierry Mugler created a duet especially for Olga Smirnova (her partner will be Bolshoi Theater premier Denis Savin).
Thierry Mugler has always had a taste for theatricality. His fantastic outfits are worn by everyone from David Bowie, Cindy Loper and Madonna to Demi Moore, Lady Gaga and Kim Kardashian. Here he returns to the beloved theme of the effeminate android, gifting dancers with reptilian skin, face masks and mohawk manes, and donning mirror-shining cyborg armor.
“Manfred Thierry Mugler is not only a true fashion icon, but also an incredible co-author. It was a real pleasure to exchange ideas, energy and trust on this new creative adventure. This process opened up new perspectives for both of us. The result is unexpected and extreme work,”says choreographer Wayne McGregor.
Ballet soundtrack - contemporary electronic music created byby the American composer Holly Herndon using artificial intelligence, as well as the neoclassical piano electronics by the German composer Niels Frahm.
The ballet premiered at the end of 2019 in the UK. It will be performed for the first time in Russia.
The program will be completed by the ballet "POSTSCRIPT" by choreographers PaulLightfoot and Sol Leon to the famous music of Philip Glass. This is one of the most difficult works created by the authors, both in terms of choreography and emotional content. It has all the characteristic features inherent in the best ballets of the famous duet Lightfoot / Leon: amazing musicality, laconic scenery,melancholy and harmonious flow of dancers' movements.
