Medicine and dietetics do not stand still, and every day you can learn something new. Either experts have banned the use of eggs, then they branded lard with shame, or they are agitating to switch exclusively to the Mediterranean diet, once again calling it the healthiest and most effective. It is extremely difficult for an ordinary person, who is far from scientific knowledge about the composition of foods and the intricacies of the processes occurring in the body, to understand this endless stream of information. Let's try to do it together.
Data on food, health and nutrition are changing all the time. It is clear, because scientists are constantly looking for the optimal approach to activity and longevity. Much on this path was mercilessly stigmatized, others were praised, today the situation has stabilized somewhat, although everything is not so simple. Let's try to figure out which products should still be discarded due to their rather contradictory properties.
Low fat dairy products
Several decades ago, the medical community branded animal fat in any form. Butter, chicken yolks, steak, milk, yogurt and lard have been named as the main causes of atherosclerosis, heart attacks, strokes and widespread obesity. The entire world began to abruptly eat low-fat foods, but the number of deaths from cardiovascular diseases grew steadily, and diagnoses of diabetes and obesity spread at a cosmic speed. It turns out that fat is not at all to blame here, as experts previously believed.
It turned out that the products from which fats are extracted during the production process, making them seem to be useful, become tasteless and the consumer simply cannot eat them. Moreover, it is difficult to get enough of such products, because the fat in the composition, as you know, has the maximum calorie content and these calories are released for a rather long time, unlike carbohydrate ones. If people cannot eat 0% fat, then it needs to be "decorated" with something. With what? Sugar, for example. And here on the shelf in a beautiful jar you get your cherished yogurt without fat, but with some kind of additive in the form of jam, pseudo-berries, muesli and others. The result is a jump in glucose, insulin and very soon you will want to eat again. As a result, you will consume more calories and all at the expense of carbohydrates, which you really won't be able to spend.
Choose milk, kefir, cottage cheese and sour cream with a good percentage of fat. Then your dishes and coffee will initially be tasty and you will not want to eat more and more. If you suspect you have an intolerance to milk protein, switch to cream, eat butter and sometimes eat cottage cheese with a fat content of at least 9%.
Muesli, cereals and more
If earlier any advertisement told how healthy and healthy for breakfast to eat cereals, muesli and a snack on an oat bar, today there are fewer such intrusive offers, but such products are still in demand. Of course, this is very convenient: pour the contents of the pack into a plate and pour in hot milk. However, what do we get in the end?
If you are a fan of such a breakfast, take a couple of minutes to study the composition of the product, and, especially, the amount of proteins, fats and carbohydrates there. There will probably be a decent amount of the latter. Since cereal is a highly processed product, you will not get any benefit, as, for example, from whole grains in the form of B vitamins in it. And the addition of sugar, dried berries and others will make your muesli a real carbohydrate bomb. A jump in sugar, insulin and fast hunger is provided for you. Dump the pack and boil plain oatmeal with butter if you're so addicted to a breakfast like that.
Freshly squeezed juices
Some time ago, the benefits of freshly squeezed juices were praised by everyone. It was believed that a glass of orange juice for breakfast is an elixir of health, youth and longevity. You can throw away the juicer, the benefits of juices have long been heavily criticized. If by eating any fruit, you also get fiber that is good for the intestines, then by making juice and throwing the fibers into the trash, your body is saturated with pure sugar. No, if you go to work in the field with a hoe right after a glass of juice, that's one question. But for the average office worker, such a breakfast only threatens with extra pounds.
By the way, with regard to fruits, it is also not worth leaning on them for the sake of fiber. Be moderate and try to eat seasonal gifts. Now, for example, is the season of strawberries, please yourself with this berry in small quantities.
Soft cheese with additives
How convenient it is: spread soft cheese with mushroom flavor on a piece of bread, right? Or choose the taste of pickles, herbs, bacon and other gastronomic delights. Nutritionists already call cheese not the best product because of the salt it contains, and they generally treat soft cheese in jars very negatively. In order for this product to become soft, it is necessary to add phosphates to it, which a modern person already consumes in excess. Moreover, additives and flavor enhancers make the product so attractive that you will not have time to look back as you grind the entire package. And be healthy there calories. So throw such a product out of harm's way and buy a small piece of good cheese, which will enrich you with calcium and cheer you up, as it contains tryptophan, a precursor of serotonin.
Bread and croutons
In the massive rejection of bread, many began to switch to bread and even crackers, considering them to be something extremely useful. Of course, if you eat one crusty loaf of rye flour instead of a piece of loaf, nothing will be wrong, on the contrary, you will only get the benefit. However, the consumer often does not look at the composition of the product at all and gets an even worse version of white bread in the package. In addition, seeds and other ingredients are often added to breads that increase their calorie content. This is not to say that the product is bad and should be thrown away, just practice shows that a person cannot stop when a pack of crispy bread is in front of him.
As for the croutons, the answer is unequivocal. They were rarely positioned as a healthy replacement for bread, and they contain an incredible amount of harmful additives and salt. It is better not to buy such a product at all, although many still consider it more useful than the assortment of the bread shelf.
