Avito experts interviewed 10,000 Russians to find out if they are preparing for the beach season, how they get in shape, and what kinds of sports they usually play. Most of the respondents said that they plan to start preparing for the summer or have already started training, while 26% answered that they are not going to play sports, because they are either in excellent physical shape at all times, or they simply love themselves the way they are. The overwhelming majority of the respondents choose independent exercises at home and proper nutrition, and the most popular sport among Russians is running.

Most of the respondents, namely 43%, plan to start preparing for the summer in the near future - to lose weight, just tone the body or improve their health. At the same time, about 30% of the survey participants decided not to “start on Monday,” and are already doing sports with might and main. Most of those who are preparing or are going to prepare for the summer are women: 81% of the women surveyed are already working out or planning to get in shape.

About 13% of survey participants said that they are always in great shape and do not need sports. Another 13% of respondents admitted that they will not engage in physical activity, because they love themselves in any form and accept themselves as they are. In contrast to 19% of women who said that they would not prepare for the summer because they are in good shape or simply love themselves anyway, among men, 35% of men answered this way.

Why do Russians go in for sports this spring

The respondents who play sports shared the reasons why they do it. Most of the survey participants (61%) said that they go in for sports in order to simply keep themselves in shape. Another 56% of survey participants use physical activity to maintain health or for medicinal purposes. About 28% of the respondents said that they go in for sports just for fun.

45% of survey participants admitted that the goal of their sports activities is to lose weight. They shared their wishes as to how many pounds they want to lose. Most of the survey participants (74%) said they wanted to lose from 3 to 10 kilograms: from 5 to 10 kilograms - 38% of the respondents, and from 3 to 5 kilograms - 36%. Only 5% of respondents plan to simply get in shape and lose only 1-2 kilograms, and some respondents, on the contrary, decided to seriously take on losing weight: 13% said that they plan to lose 10 to 15 kilograms of weight, and 8% want to to lose more than 15 kilograms.

Some respondents said they need sports to combat nervousness, and there were several survey participants who shared that they exercise to recover from childbirth.

How Russians lose weight by summer

Most of the respondents from those who are going to prepare for the summer or have already started training, shared that they will or are already doing sports at home on their own - this was the answer of 59%. At the same time, 11% of the respondents also prefer to study at home, however, according to a ready-made program, and therefore chose online programs with a trainer. Another 27% of the survey participants want to take on themselves thoroughly and have decided that they will go to the gym or to group classes, motivating themselves with the purchase of a subscription. About 33% of respondents consider outdoor activities as the best option for physical activity. Slightly more than 1% of respondents shared other preferences in the field of physical activity: some admitted that they want to go to the pool or ride a bike when it gets warmer, a few more respondents said that they will get in shape by digging a vegetable garden and gardening.

Losing weight or toning yourself does not always depend only on sports, so Russians also begin to monitor their diet. About 47% of the respondents said they want to start or have already started eating right. Another 30% of respondents are going to sit down or have already started a diet, and 8% of survey participants will start or are already undergoing a detox program for the body for greater ease in the body and improvement of well-being. Some respondents also said they plan to try intermittent fasting or calorie restriction.

Sports country: what kind of sports do Russians play or plan to do

Russians who go in for sports choose a variety of options for physical activity. The majority of survey participants (33%) go in for running, 27% prefer to do strength and cardio workouts in gyms, and 26% do stretching. About 22% go in for swimming, 13% do yoga, 12% do Scandinavian walking, 11% dance, 8% go to group classes (Pilates, Zumba, etc.), another 8% play football, 5% do crossfit, 4% - boxing.

8% of respondents also spoke about other sports hobbies: aerobics and water aerobics, basketball, badminton, cycling, morning exercises, strength exercises. There were also ardent fans of winter sports - snowboarding and skiing. Many also answered that they walk a lot to stay in shape, and some consider their work to be the best physical activity.

What kind of inventory do Russians plan to buy or have already bought?

For sports at home, Russians purchase a variety of equipment. Since running is the most popular sport among Russians, it is clear that running shoes are the most sought-after sporting goods: 50% of respondents said they wanted to buy them. This spring, the demand for running shoes on Avito in Russia has grown by 44% compared to last year. Some respondents prefer strength training and have bought dumbbells or even a barbell. Russians have become 42% more interested in both dumbbells and barbells this year than last year. 28% of respondents in Russia as a whole want to buy a rope, yoga mats - 26%. Ropes this spring have become more in demand by 8%, and yoga mats - by 63%.

Another 18% of respondents want to buy weights, 17% - fitness tapes, 12% - a fitness ball or the so-called "fitball". This year, Russians are looking for weights on Avito 16% more often than last year, fitness tapes have become 12% more popular, and fitballs have attracted 40% more site users. 13% of respondents plan to buy Nordic walking sticks, 5% - boxing gloves. The demand for Nordic walking poles this spring has jumped 2, 2 times in Russia as a whole, and the interest in boxing gloves is 41% more active.

10% of respondents suggested other options for the inventory they plan to purchase. Water sports enthusiasts want to buy fins and swimwear, winter sports fans don't give up, and even in the spring they are going to buy skis and hockey equipment, football fans - balls and equipment, and light cardio fans want to buy hula hoops, dance shoes or step platforms.

What simulators do Russians want to buy or have already purchased home

Some Russians are planning to invest in more serious and larger home fitness equipment. The majority of respondents - 26% and 22% - want to buy a treadmill and exercise bike, respectively. The demand for treadmills on Avito this year has grown by 61% compared to the same period last year in Russia as a whole, and exercise bikes have attracted 37% more attention from users. Another 7% of fans of high-tech devices would like to install an elliptical trainer at home. Ellipsoids this year have become more in demand among Russians by 41% compared to last year.

About 19% of the respondents would prefer to install a wall bars or a horizontal bar at home, 15% - a bench for the press, another 9% - a punching bag. This spring, the demand for wall bars and horizontal bars on Avito in Russia increased by 48% and 54%, respectively, 33% more users became interested in press benches, and punching bags became 36% more in demand. Another 11% of respondents chose a creative and fun way to lose weight and keep fit - a trampoline in the yard or in the country. This spring, the demand for trampolines in Russia really jumped 77% compared to the same period last year.

10% of the respondents said that they are considering buying other devices to maintain physical activity, for example, a tennis table, scooter or parallel bars, and one of the participants shared that he actually does the simulators himself.

About 18% of those surveyed said they already have everything they need for physical activity, and in addition to various equipment, some called the shovel and rake excellent equipment, and some respondents said that caring for their young children is the best cardio workout.
