A group of psychologists from the UK, Poland and Finland conducted a study that identified the main personality traits of men that are most attractive to women.
Experts noted that the fair sex is attracted not only by positive character traits. Very often they are attracted to men with the so-called dark triad, which refers to such personality traits as narcissism, Machiavellianism and psychopathy.
Narcissism consists of excessive narcissism and overestimated self-esteem, which is absolutely not true, and a lack of empathy. Machiavellianism is characterized by human manipulation, cynical disregard for morality, self-interest and deceit. Psychopathy is characterized by antisocial behavior, selfishness, heartlessness, and ruthlessness.
The findings of psychologists were confirmed by a study in which 2370 women took part. They were asked to select computer-modeled photographs of one of two men, with one of the men in the photo showing more pronounced dark triadic traits. Mostly women chose stocky men with large facial features. It is this type that is most often the carrier of the listed negative qualities.
At the same time, scientists note that such an attraction has nothing to do with full-fledged feelings that develop into love, and extremely rarely ends in a harmonious marriage. This choice is made by women instinctively, since men of this type are associated with the fair sex with physical strength, intelligence and confidence. And it is precisely these qualities that, according to women, are necessary for a reliable partner.
The research is published in the journal Evolution and Human Behavior.
