American scientists from the University of Pittsburgh have come to the conclusion that modern fitness gadgets, such as trackers, smartwatches and other fashionable devices, only interfere with the fight against extra pounds.

Scientists conducted a study involving 471 volunteers, which lasted about two years. All participants ate a low-calorie diet and exercise regularly during this time. Periodically, meetings were held with them, at which the participants in the experiment received recommendations on diet and exercise.
From the very beginning of the study, all its participants were divided into 2 groups: the first monitored their achievements on their own, and the second - with the help of fitness gadgets that counted the calories lost and the number of steps taken per day. By the end of the experiment, the participants in the first group lost an average of 5, 9 kg, and the second - only 2.5 kg.
Scientists explain this result by psychology: the owner of the gadget sees that the required amount of calories has already been spent, relaxes and stops restricting himself in food, eventually overeating. Experts point out that without a deliberate desire to achieve the set goal and daily self-control, the result is unattainable. And gadgets, even the most advanced ones, in the absence of willpower and patience will not help you lose weight.
